A short story by Jorge Louis Borges, "Pierre Menard, Author of the 'Quixote'" in which Borges imagines a character, an author, who decides to rewrite Don Quixote. Rather than writing a translation or interpretation of the original story, this character fully immerses himself in the story and rewrites it line for line. Borges' story is written as a review of sorts on the death of Pierre Menard. While only a few fragments of the whole (rewritten) story remain, the reviewer describes them as "almost infinitely richer."
