this kind of copying is simple, no one is actually ripped off and no egos are hurt. by copying an established 'master' in a medium that decays the work -- is clunkier or childlike -- the relationship of the original to copy is maintained. and it is not that unusual as there is a history of students copying to learn from their predecessors. it is fun for me to try to recreate a piece of printed work in gauche or crayon -- it becomes an exercise in looking and using the hand rather than the mousepad. please note that my selection is highly personal and in no way tries to represent a concise history of graphic design. there also are too many men represented here, something i am working to correct.
